...to get the top of the mountain in the photo. I didn't!
The mountain in question is Kirk Fell in Wasdale. It has a very steep face as you can see. This is Wasdale Shepherds' Meet but of course you don't need to be a shepherd to attend. There were various events such as a running race (only a short distance) for dogs and owners. I nearly entered with Chloe and might have done if I'd been able to see it first!
Anyway, this photo shows the serious bit, which is the showing of the Herdwick sheep. As well as the excellent tips (round here) tups (more generally) or rams (in standard English) eyeing each other up, you can see judging in progress. I think this class is being judged for coat quality. With Herdwicks this is related to weather-proofness as they are famed for their hardiness.
