A Touch of Thomson

A detail above the doors of Nos 3 - 4 Moray Place, Strathbungo, south-side of Glasgow. A terrace of ten houses, designed by Alexander "Greek" Thomson, 1859-1861. They have recently undergone significant external restoration. The scaffolding is starting to come down, revealing repairs to the sandstone work. I just love the detail. Many of these features appear on his other buildings around Glasgow.

Thomson and his family lived at No 1 Moray Place from 1861 until his death in 1875. He is buried in the Southern Necropolis. I really should try to find his resting place.

A musical evening on BBC4, enjoying Transatlantic Sessions again. It featured one of the movements of the "Trossachs Suite" by Phil Cunningham. We were privileged to be at the first performance in the Concert Hall. Then a hour and a half of "Tubular Bells" by Mike Oldfield. Brilliant programme. Showing my age now, as we hummed along to all the theme tunes. I never tire of that seven minute bass riff at the end. Genius.
