The Final Curtain
A sad day today, a feeling that was enhanced as the sky was crying raindrops too.
The landmark pride and joy of Scheveningen - the pier - was closed today at 10:00 am, and has now officially become a ghost pier.
A picture like the one I took almost a year ago of people walking on the promenade deck with the grand Kurhas on the boulevard is past tense, the bankrupt pier needs serious restoration and nobody is willing to take the tab.
Due to rotting wood and concrete the fire brigade had a court judge that it's become to hazardous to keep it open to the public and chances are big that demolition will be the final decision.
Sad, as Scheveningen was once THE upperclass 'Brighton' like holiday resort of the Netherlands, but incompetent civil councils have agreed money greedy project developers replace every grand building by cheep & ugly flats.
The only other landmark - the Kurhaus - has also gone bankrupt earlier this year and is also for sale, but nobody is interested thanks to the dreadful surrounding real estate.
What is to become of my - and obviously also fellow blipster Farishta's - favorite Scheveningen?
