Hadrian's Wall
Hadrian's Wall was built in 122AD as the northern frontier of the Roman Empire to keep the 'Barbarians' out of the Empire. For 300 years soldiers kept watch all along the wall and it must have been quite an impressive high wide barrier. Much of the wall has since been plundered but it is now protected.
Today all was peaceful with no fears of any barbarians attacking and only the sounds of the biting wind and rain were a reminder of how unwelcome a posting it may have been to Roman soldiers from
the warmer lands.
