SPOONBILL Platalea regia

Just for the record - there was a flock of 44 Royal spoonbills ( I counted them) on the island in the middle of the Charlesworth reserve. Here they are today taking off for places afar - they were youngsters ( I Know this because of the brown on the ends of the wing tips) they headed over the Port hills looking like they were going to Lake Ellesmere. I've never seen such a large flock over this side of the hills. I saw a smaller flock at Te Huinga Manu about two weeks ago. I couldnt say if this was the same lot or not.
