Orla & Conor

Chilly

It was so cold this morning that Orla wore her Norwegian hat (from Grandma and Grandad) on our way to school. It looks very cute on her! We had her first parents' meeting with the teacher today, it was just Mrs Lalley. We heard pretty much what we expected to hear, but it was all very positive. The main points were:

Orla is a polite, well-mannered child in class. She speaks out and joins in all class activities, but is very quiet within her group. She sometimes needs individual instruction to do things.

She's a perfectionist, and sometimes the teachers have to hurry her to finish pieces of work. She takes much longer than other children because she wants it to be perfect.

She has made two good friends, but can still be a bit of a loner.

She's very artistic.

When it comes to story-telling, she's very imaginative and "thinks outside the box". She loves books and is already good at things like blending sounds to identify words.

I asked her about why she doesn't talk in her group and she said it was because she didn't want to be on an amber light (their behaviour system is based on traffic lights). Given that the teacher had said she just needs to relax a bit, we felt it was okay to tell her that she could chat a bit without any repercussions!

As a reward for such a good report, we took her out for tea then she went swimming with her dad.
