Ivy-leaved Cyclamen in Cambridge Botanic Gardens

These beautiful autumn gems are growing underneath an apple tree which is supposedly a clone of the one from which an apple fell to hit Isaac Newton on the head, helping him to formulate the laws of gravity. However I read somewhere that the apple fell nearby rather than hitting him, which made him question what made it fall to the ground.

Whatever the truth of the matter, these little beauties are breathtaking en-masse! The gardens looked fab and so well planted for Autumn- grasses and trees turning gold and bronze, and late flowers like asters and rudbeckia were coming into their own! A great day out.
