Why do we do it?

It's our WI meeting tonight and I get to introduce and thank the speakers, buy the plants as a thank you (today's blip), make a Posh Pud (which isn't posh at all but no-one will notice against the other 150 puds that will turn up!) and provide plates, spoons and napkins! I also have to keep everyone happy, informed and involved, answer the same question a dozen times, be polite AND smile sweetly throughout - not a large ask then!
