That looks like Nicolas Roche, I don't believe it
We saw Nibali cycle back down the hill but didn't know who the new red jersey was (I didn't even know that Igor had been overtaken just before he got to us on the finishing straight). Then we saw Saxo on the red jersey and out he stepped. The 1987 La Plagne words of Phil Liggett were recalled: "Just who is that rider coming up behind - because that looks like Roche! That looks like Stephen Roche... it's Stephen Roche, has come over the line! He almost caught Pedro Delgado, I don't believe it!"
We changed our plan to head to the finish of the stage from the coast and drove to Ronda. We didn't have a map but noted the road numbers. Found the roads and then found ourselves on an untarmacced forest track (?). Caught some cyclists and shouted out the window "a la Vuelta?" and the answer was Si. Eventually we came to some parked cars (but not many) and a policeman who advised us to walk the last kilometre.
After the race we enjoyed a lovely meal in the square on the outskirts of Ronda and were treated with a walk past with a Madonna.
