Mostly Six Five Oh

Hugh Town, St. Mary's. A foggy start with a couple of hours sunshine before the fog returned. With the uncertainty of the weather we decided to re-arrange our return to the mainland, with barely a single flight having left the island since we'd arrived we knew we had to change our plans. We paid the Isles of Scilly Travel offices a visit and changed our departure to Thursday (instead of Saturday) and via the boat, The Scillonian, to Penzance. The travel agent was very helpful and recommended a hotel in Penzance for Thursday night.

After taking care of a few more pieces of business we headed to Old Town where we found a beautiful church and graveyard overlooking the bay. A walk on the beach then a spot of lunch before heading along one of the few paved roads on the island to see some artist studios. Continuing on the road looping back to Hugh Town and to St. Mary's Methodist Church where there was a photography exhibition of "Scillonians at work and play" which was a diverse and fun collection of islanders' photographs over the years, pictures of famous and royal visitors and a large contingent from the local am-drams which were a delight to look at. Next we visited St. Mary's Museum which was just crammed floor to ceiling with treasures.

We had our first clear night, not a cloud and no fog, as there is very little light pollution from the islands the view of the stars was truly incredible!
