We had another lovely day at Rixton Clay Pits for Forest Fun with friends. The children ran about, had a nature scavenger hunt and found homes in the forest for their animals and babies. I got a book last weekend, "The Thrifty Forager," so I have been very excited to begin and to find something to forage. I picked many hawthorn berries, only to find once consulting the book again that they were the wrong kind and not at all tasty. I also grabbed some rose-hips but not enough to do anything with I don't think. A few days earlier we got some elderberries and I separated them out today (huge PITA), cleaned them and I'm now attempting to dry them. Let's hope at least this goes well!
