Acanthus bud

Another cold wet day today so I was not tempted far outside. The acanthus along my driveway are great growers and will swamp any other plants given half a chance. The big leaves are smooth and glossy but the flower spikes are a different story. They launch themselves skyward in sharp armour that wards off browsers and gardeners alike. I love them but treat them with respect when weeding.
