Trees in rain, Lanthwaite woods

A damp start to the week, but surprisingly mild. Chose to go to Lanthwaite woods for shelter, and indeed, within the woods, it was dry and calm. When we reached the edge of Crummock water, the wind was howling down the lake, gusting at around 45 mph. Almost impossible to keep the camera dry and steady!

I love the way rain in woodland emphasises the colours, especially when light levels get so low that the eye doesn't pick up the colours as strongly. Good to see the first hints of autumn colour coming into the leaves and bracken, and I rather liked the delicate tonality of the background colours (including the tree trunks) when contrasted with the dark tree trunk in the foreground. They have been slow to change this year due to the warm(er) weather, but the lower temperatures forecast for the end of the week, with possible early frosts, should bring the colour change on more quickly.
