The initial careful sweep with the circular saw was far to tentative, so the almost-never-used-apart-from-to-take-a-bit-off-the-door-in-the-flat-once electric plane was retrieved from the loft fro gradually nibble away at the rest until the door was able to be closed over the top of the new mat.
