The roar of the greasepaint.......
The coast wasn't looking it's photogenic best today (grey, wet and windy) so it's a sneaked indoor blip at our local, newly refurbished theatre due to reopen in a couple of weeks. I did a quick, damp dash to buy tickets for "Agatha Christie's Murder on Air" ('The Agatha Christie Theatre Company presents three gripping radio thrillers from the Queen of Crime, read in an authentic studio setting with live sound effects, in the style of their original BBC broadcast.')....I'm looking forward to that!
Whitley Bay Playhouse has been off the local entertainment map for a couple of years while it was being virtually rebuilt, and there were times when shortfalls in funds, grants and backers made it look doubtful whether the job would ever get finished. It's very much a community theatre (home to local Am Dram/Operatic/Pantomime Societies and venue for the Gang Show, y'know, that sort of stuff) and I'm SO glad it's back in business! A bit sad to see they've dispensed with the vintage double snogging seats in the back row though (it used to double as a cinema)....now I bet THEY could tell a few stories!
By the way, they didn't run out of blue seats, the scattered red ones are meant to represent buoys bobbing in the sea...apparently!
