Going Up!

I kept the gloom intact in this typical shot of a Barcelona apartment building entrance in Eixample. The elevator or ascensor you see in the distance would have been a late addition. These 'ascensors' where originally called that as they took you from ground level 'up' to your own floor; you couldn't call them to your floor to take you down! You were meant to 'descend' under your own steam, hence the descriptor 'ascensor' or 'ascendor' was quite literal!
