WWII Veterans
It was hard to say goodby to my son, daughter -in-law, and precious Gavin this morning. I spent the whole flight home looking at photos of the little guy! My husband and I will be returning in three weeks for a short weekend and that made it much easier for me.
Straight from the airport I had to switch to the daughter role. I took my father, who is pictured on the left, to a meeting of his Honor Flight to our capital Washington DC on Tuesday. I will be his guardian for this 20 hour day. It is the goal of the Honor flights to get all of the surviving WWII Veterans to their war memorial in our capital. This is an amazing honor to take my father on this special day. We have to be at the airport at 4:00am on Tuesday and will fly there and back on the same day with 80 other veterans. Seated beside my Dad is a another WWII vet from the Marine Corp. They became fast friends in the couple hours we were there. His name is Sparky. Not only will I love being my Dad's guardian for the day, but it will be a privilege to meet and honor all of these heroes. It is impressive that all the volunteers who are pulling this flight off to perfection each time, will also be making sure that even though our government is shut down, it will not interfere with the honoring of these wonderful veterans.
Off to get some much needed sleep!
