Saying goodbye to Jonathan.......
.... who set up our sailing club.
A memorial service is a stocktake of a man's life and in hearing this man's story, I felt vindicated in my choices. This man had given many things a try, had hit the mark on several occasions and had won himself many friends and much gratitude. 52 is no age and sad but as his brother said in his eulogy, he was not so much away as standing on the touchlines cheering us on.
This memorial service was unique with live performance of this version of Auld Lang Syne from Sex (sic) in the City http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_YnmHLynRY by the actual person who sings it in the film. It was originally used WITHOUT permissions and lawyers worked hard to make as much capital from it as possible, for the singer, or so I was told.
It was an amazing event, and refined and moving in the best and realist sense of the word.
We miss this man - we have since missed him he began to move slowly out of our lives. We have tried to make the club work well, as he most certainly would have wanted. I hope we can meet that challenge ....
