It's a scandal

Spent a lovely Sunday wandering the grounds of Cliveden House in Buckinghamshire, perhaps best known for its role in the Profumo Affair (sadly I didn't see the swimming pool, so can't confirm if any "actresses" were swimming naked in it today).

It's a pretty impressive place - although the house itself is now a luxury hotel - but this clock tower caught my eye.

I discovered, however, on my guided tour if the house, that it's not really a clock tower at all - rather, it's a water tower, and when built had a team of donkeys working to pump water up from the Thames 100m down the cliff which gives the house its name.

It's a scandal.
