The South Country
I've been re-reading bits of Edward Thomas's The South Country, and although he writes more about spring and summer than he does about autumn, more about rain than mist and more about evening than morning, stretches of country like this (on the South Downs between Winchester and Petersfield) always make me think of him, striding for days and nights across the hills on long distance tracks, battling his depression.
So I decided to go out before breakfast to catch this stretch of country, which has been on my blip list for quite some time. Definitely The glory of the beauty of the morning. The sun broke through at around 8am, but in Winchester when I got back it was still thick mist and stayed that way until gone 10, by which time I was basking in an afterglow of toast, honey, plums and good strong coffee.
Carpe diem - and enjoy it xx
