Pineheath - Harrogate's Downton Abbey

This rickety spire once glittered in the sunshine because it was once covered in gold leaf.
This is Harrogate’s Downton Abbey, a 40 bedroom mansion, left in a time warp for more than a quarter of a century.

Owned by Sir Dunjibhoy and Lady Bomanji, Indian-born aristocrats who were friends of Royals. Sir Dunjibhoy Bomanji was a shipping magnet and knighted for his philanthrophy.

“Pineheath” is where the Bomanjis lived during the autumn months after spending the summer at their windsor home and before leaving for winter in Poona.

Sir Dunjibhoy died in 1937, his wife in 1985. Their only daughter died last year and the property has now been sold for to a local business man who wants to restore it to its former glory and make the 12-bathroom property a family home again.

I often past the house, as it isn’t far from where I live. The iron gates showing the initials of Sir Dunjibhoy (what a lovely sounding name!) are always locked. I would love to look around the house as it really is full of wonderful features.

Worth looking here for more pics.
