Cerro Pedernal
Cerro Pedernal, or "flint mountain", is a flat topped mountain clearly visible from Ghost Ranch.
This side of the mountain faces north, making it a difficult photograph. This one was taken right at sunset--one can see the fascinating highlights on the Northwest side of the mountain.
It's called "flint mountain" because the slopes yield flint-like stone, called chert. Chert has been used for centuries to extract tool building and weapon materials.
