Home Made
Making Soup
Organic tomatoes fresh from Carole's garden.
Cook and gardener, Carole boiled, peeled, and sliced them.
She chopped the celery and was my own personal Virgil,
guiding me through a simple white sauce
from scratch. Butter, flour, and milk over low heat.
I whisked.
I added more milk.
I made more white sauce.
I seasoned with sage advice,
onion powder, garlic powder, fresh chopped basil.
Ground pepper, then came the tomatoes and stir.
Wafting that smell;
canny craftsmanship,
the steamy scent of praise.
We left it covered
to progress the flavors
before we sampled again.
