Near the mouth of Columbia river

At the mouth of Columbia river is a town called Astoria, one of my favorite towns in Oregon. Columbia river is about 4 miles wide at this point, there is often ship activity. Columbia River Bar is one of the most dangerous in the world, so a bar pilot guides every ship in from the Pacific or out to it. River pilots with expertise in navigating the Columbia guide the ships upriver. The Pilot boat ferries these expert navigators to and from the ships. I enjoy watching it all unfold.
I was in town to watch granddaughter's volleyball game ( they lost, the Fighting Fishermen are tough!)
and captured the Pilot boat making its way out to a ship.
