October Challenge - Heavy

This 60 foot gun barrel was manufactured by Bethlehem Steel and is very heavy - 188,000 pounds (94 tons). This gun barrel was from the USS Mississippi (one of 12) and could shoot a 14 inch 360mm shell over 20 miles. The USS Mississippi was commissioned on December 1917. To late for WWI, but did see action in WWII. The battleship was decommissioned September 1956. Ironically, Bethlehem Steel purchased the battleship for scrap metal.
