The Icelandic Sagas - The Gods Must be Crazy
The plan today was to shoot at Goðafoss, stop and feast at Akureyri, mosy on down the fjords, stop and play with some Icelandic Ponies and then arrive happy and content to our evening stop. Well sometimes plans go a little awry. The troll threatening had not worked as it continued to rain this morning and we were only 10 minutes out from Myvatn when something nasty went wrong with a front wheel. Within an hour or so we were happily ensconced on the local school bus being driven to Goðafoss. I can report there was messy chalk in the back of the bus and each seat had a tray table like in an airline and a little pocket to put bits and pieces.
So this is Goðafoss. A very impressive fall. The saga of the name goes something like in around 1000 Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion it is said that upon returning from the Alþingi, Þorgeir threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall. In other words the Falls of the Gods.
By the time we had finished here, another bus had arrived and took us to Akureyri where we really did have the most amazing lunch. A delicious Asian inspired soup and fish cooked to perfection. Quite a number of the group then boosted the Icelandic economy by buying half of the North 66 shop. I have to say I resisted.
Onwards to our night destination but on the way we stopped and tried for some shots of Icelandic ponies. Our tour leader knew the farm owner but the light was almost gone so not the best of shots. And now it is late and we have an early-ish start tomorrow so I will bid you good night. Thanks so much for all the kind comments, stars and faves on yesterdays. It was lovely to have such nice feedback and apologies for another foss shot.
