"Proof"

This is not the hand of a Bigfoot!

This is part of an art exhibition that was in Abertay Union this weekend in the Hannah McClure centre entitled 'Proof.' Showcasing the work of Beatrice Haines, the exhibition was based on the work that she was inspired to create following a summer as the artist in residence in the forensics labs.

She was shown all the different techniques used in forensics to gather evidence and then used them herself to create pieces of art. This is a picture of a metal hand covered in Black Magnetic powder - the powder being more commonly used to dust for fingerprints at a crime scene. Quirky, but possibly a waste of powder?!!

There were other pieces where she had used different dye stains to make a picture - the dyes being more commonly used for the staining of bodily fluids. A dark room had also been set up where she had covered the area in fluorescent dye that only became visible when viewed using fluorescent lights and eye goggles! I even spotted one of the buzzard feathers from my project in 2012 being used in one of her pieces!

Overall I enjoyed seeing the forensic techniques we were taught and that I now see in use in real life everyday on real cases, being used in a capacity other than for crime.
