Tour de Rock

Apple loaves for the bake sale at work tomorrow. It's a fundraiser for Tour de Rock, a wee bike ride that started in Port Alice on the northern tip of Vancouver Island on September 22nd. By the time they arrive in the Square (directly across the street from my window at work) on Friday afternoon, they'll have wheeled a thousand kilometers ... most of those kms grinding up a mountain, then coasting down the other side, only to be confronted at the bottom by another grinder going up the way. Sounds brutal, but most of the riders are big strong firemen. A few policemen and three or four media riders. But mostly firemen. =:-0

So. Apple loaf. It's just a plain old thing of a recipe, but instead of just one cup of chopped apple I put four or five or even six cups of chopped apple in. Makes it all heavy and moist and chewy ... and with a thick slather of soft butter melting across the top of each slice ... well ... it's nearly a dumpling. It's really just loads of baked apple bound together by a bit of flour and sugar.

We usually raise about $400 at our bake sales. Folks pay anything for cakes.
