Leaving Ross Street

And so it is time to say goodbye to Roshan and Sita as I leave Ross Street and move around the corner to my new room in Madras Road. We posed for pictures in the back garden, kindly taken by our next door neighbour Italian grandmother. It was a bonus that I got the best conversation out of her on my last day there.

She also gave us a lovely fig to share from her wonderful tree. I have been admiring this tree since I moved in. Roshan and Sita are Nepalese. Sita had never tried a fig before and she was (rightly) much impressed. One of the weird things about this photo is that I am relatively tall in it. I am not at all tall!

It was a delight to spend my time living with these good people. They are positive, kind, happy, easy-going and with only good things to say about the world. It has been fascinating to hear about life in Nepal (especially rural life) and I have loved their cooking and the wonderful smells that it gives to the house. They recently returned from a visit home and Sita brought back a small prayer bell which she uses to welcome the new day. It makes a lovely clear, sweet tone and I smile every time I hear it. What a great way to start the day!
