Preparation

The small section of the garden I have freshly worked over pulling out weeds. Some months ago, I composted the section and a neighbouring one and covered it with straw that has broken down, hoping to encourage worms, delving clay and trying to spread it. This is non-wetting soil. It will be interesting to see if I have been able to improve the yield by my puny effort.

This latest cold snap has diminished my enthusiasm, but coming up are a few days in the low and middle 20s so I will plant up this section. Interesting to see what I can blip for here over summer. Where there are weeds will be covered in pumpkin vines if all go well and the surround will be brown as result of our extreme days of heat and no rain.
