Rundle Mountain and Vermilion Lakes

The early mornings are killing me and I have hardly had my required hours when the Bossess iPhone sings it's song and we are up, up and away again and this morning was the jackpot as we traveled to Two Jacks Lake which is the water supply of Banff and found the red sky in full swing. We have met a lot of photographers on this trip, standing beside landscapes with tripods and they have all been a friendly lot. Oh and there was Elvis the Elk in a paddock on the way back too.

Other adventures included Johnston Canyon and the Banff Springs Hotel where the team found the credit card again and the day ended at Vermilion Lakes where the wind had dropped a bit and the photographic opportunities were overwhelming. This is an interesting time in this area as September 30th marks the end of the Fall season and lots of stuff was closing (camping grounds etc) which did not effect us but the next week will see the park going into hibernate mode. You would not have thought this with the number of busses at Johnstone Canyon but by Canada standards things were slow which just goes to show that you would NOT want to travel this area in holiday times. An indicator was perhaps the trail up Johnston Canyon which was sealed the whole way in order to better cope with the over a million visitors the area gets. It was just right for us at this time.

We have a kitchenette in our accommodation so a visit to the supermarket on the way home go get something tasty for the microwave led to The Boss being overwhelmed by a wonderful bunch of Girl Guides and dessert became a packet of Mint Chocolate biscuits. Yumm.
