Stray Cat?

This little cat has been in and around our garden for a while. I really hope it is not a stray but it is very thin but friendly, we don't need a cat, might want one but sense must prevail. Going away is so much easier without an animal in the house. Our last cat was 19 when he died this summer, will we survive the winter without a cat by the log burner?
