Acorn Woodpecker, Melanerpes formicivorus

Today I saw my first Acorn Woodpecker, and was hoping I was the first this year, but AviLove beat me to it:)) I've never seen these in our neck of the woods, and I think they are so beautiful. They have an amazing song and are very active. We visited the library in Hillsboro, which has some lovely man made lakes and Dawson Creek trail which connects up. We walked the trail and spotted two hawks, and a blue heron. There were so many birds in the trees it was hard to distinguish "a song"!!!
