The Village Pump

The pump on the green was restored in 1984 by the Histon and Impington Village Society. They decided their pump would be non-operationable but nevertheless brought back to as close to the original as possible. The timber casings, lead capping, stone treads and brickwork were mostly available locally, along with the expertise needed. It was dedicated to the memory of Ken Oates 1905-1981, village historian. At one time, the village stocks were nearby, but so far there has been no plan to replace them. It was thought that they might have gone to a museum. After Sunday lunch in a pub with some of my family, we went to Histon Village Green to feed the ducks.
