The Mountains of Mull
Holiday Backblip - Day 3
WOW!! What a difference a bit of sunshine makes here:-) It started bright and just got better all day, so we decided to explore the "pretty road" along the west coast of Mull. Stunningly beautiful would be a more accurate description and we couldn't get enough of the wonderful views round every corner.
The sunshine also brought out some of the famed wildlife and we saw three sea-eagles soaring over the tops of the mountains, a real thrill for my husband who had been hoping to spot them. We stopped for a picnic on the shore of Loch na Keal and my eagle-eyed husband also managed to spot an otter leave the shore and start hunting for fish. We watched it for ages (and I even managed to get it on video!) before it disappeared round the next headland.
Moving on up that beautiful coast, we stopped at Ulva Ferry and debated whether to take the unique ferry across to the island (you move a board from white to red to show the ferryman that you want to cross!), but decided against it, as there was more we wanted to see on the mainland.
From Ulva Ferry, we could see the next destination - Eas Fors, a large waterfall that tumbles down the hill straight into the sea. However, we would have missed it completely if it hadn't been for eagle-eyes again, who spotted the top of the falls gushing over the rocks. I climbed up to take photos, but couldn't understand how it looked so different from what we could see from a distance - until I realised this was only half of the waterfall. The other half went under the road, down some rocks and then fell the last hundred feet or so into the sea. A bit more scrambling and I was at the edge and got the shots I wanted looking straight down, while my husband hang on to the back of my jeans for dear life!
Very happy with our lovely day out, we headed back along the same road which looked quite different going in the opposite direction! I was spoiled for choice for a blip today, but chose this scene of the mountains as we so rarely saw them like this:-)
Thinking this was our lot for the day, it was a total surprise to spot a small herd of red deer (young stag, two hinds and a "Bambi") right by a rocky outcrop at the side of the road, no more than a few feet from the car and even more of a surprise when none of them stopped eating or ran away! More possible blips:-)
Arriving home at dusk, the sunset was just so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes - but I managed to photograph that too! What a perfect day:-)
I'll put some other photos in my Blipfolio, if you're interested!
