Making the most of the pool

My boys have been in the pool - a lot. Partly to escape the bloody flies - hundreds of them today. Had to eat in shifts tonight - James had his tea, whilst corin stood by him with the fly swatter...then I ate mine, then finally corin had his whilst I took on swatting duties.

They decided to do their "Sammy the Crab" impression and torment Sophie in the pool. Corin, as you can see, was not prepared to co-operate whilst I was trying to capture a nice portrait of him!

Otherwise, slow lazy day - super hot.

Our school got a mention in the Times today as a good school to go to - not bad for a school that was going to be shut 3 years ago and that OFSTED were close to putting in special measures. Fingers crossed for results day next week, and any improvement in our performance won't be anything other than to do with the hard work of our kids and our staff - unlike what the media would like to proclaim, exams are not getting easier - and it irritates the hell out of me that schools and kids can't do anything right - if standards fell, it would be because of bad teaching and kids being lazy, lacking in motivation - but if standards rise, well that MUST be because the exams are getting easier, not because of hard work and effort. I'd like some of these journalists to sit the exams and see how they do. Its so demoralising for students to be celebrating their achievements and to be denigrated in the press.

Rant over.

Cricket has been exciting today - was glad for the end of play today just so that we couldn't lost anymore wickets - hopefully we can plod it out for the day tomorrow to secure a decent lead...anything's possible!!

And yes, the cat does only have one eye.
