Saturday: Canadian Pacific Railway

For the last few days, we have been mesmerised by the sounds of the trains as they pass through Banff.  The trains here must be over a kilometre long, so that, together with their distinctive whistle, makes them wonderfully mysterious.  So, imagine our delight when we crossed the level crossing and found not one, but two, trains passing!

Other than that, we went to the Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies which we thoroughly enjoyed.  It cast a real light on the early pioneering days.  This was followed by a drive round Lake Minnewanka (yes, yes, I know.......it's pronounced Minne-wonka, to rhyme with Willie Wonka).

And tonight, for dinner, our first lot of ribs..........

Oh, but wait, I nearly forgot.......having bemoaned the fact that there was no wildlife to be seen, this evening we encountered an elk eating shrub in someone's front garden........he was so close we could have touched him.  And later still, after dinner, he was walking down the main street, as calm as could be!
