Meadow Pipit in autumn background

Out with Blue on this lovely Autumn morning seen a lot of birds and tried out my 1.4 extension with poor results just can't get the clarity with it even using at the same subject and distance with without it my picture is better. any tips? Got this photo at the local loch.
