Colosseum
Day 5 Today we are in Civitavecchia Rome. Up and out early so we just had to order room service for breakfast!! Once in Rome we had an opportunity to explore places such as St. Peter's Basilica, unfortunately the queue was to long and our time was limited so we only saw it from the outside. Our sense of direction was appalling (where's my dad when you need him!) Between the 2 of us though we did not too bad with the map. We wandered over to the Trevi Fountain which was completed in 1762, through the coin over our shoulder and made a wish. We sat at the fountain and had lunch. After lunch we went to one of my favourite places, the Colosseum, the amphitheater were gladiators fought. It was constructed in the 1st century and is a symbol of the power and majesty of the Roman Empire. The primary function of the Colosseum was to provide violent amusement and entertainment for the people of Rome. We then went to the church of St Peter in Chains before heading to the ship. A long but enjoyable day!
