Drewry's Bluff
At Drewry's Bluff, just South of Richmond VA on the James River, the confederate Navy built a cannon works to defend the capitol from the yankees. During May 1862, elements of the federal navy, including the ironclad Monitor, steamed up the James river to this point. After several hours of pounding from this position, in the James River below, the union navy retreated.
