The loneliness of the long distance runner

Not in a circle,
This race runs a curving line,
Beginning to end.

Gave myself the afternoon off today and went into Brighton to meet two very good and long-standing friends for lunch ... one of whom has just started blipping (Videnda). Sadly neither of us got cameras out during lunch as we had a lot of chatting important issues to catch up on.

The route I often take to get home from Brighton takes me up along the top of the downs by Brighton Racecourse. Views are stunning from up there, although it was quite hazy today. It's a spectacular location for a racetrack, but the course is more of a line than a circle, so the horses have to be taken all the way down the the start (which you can see in the picture) and then run all the way back up to the stand at the other end .... consequently there tend to be long gaps between races, but at least you have a nice view to look at while you wait!

The other thing is that the racetrack goes across a road, so they have to put a covering down and close it off when races are on..... they put a notice up about the temporary covering, which a philosophical vandal has amended ... see Videnda's blip of it here)

If you look large you can see a runner, running along the perimeter of the track.

speaking of tracks....
