Home is where your heart is

This is my theme for the week - Home

It was meant to be published yesterday but i have been off work with a viral thing so hadnt taken a pic of home.

It was my birthday on Wednesday and I finally joined the Canon club (see yesterdays blip)

This is one of the first pics with my new camera not the best iv ever taken but im becomming familiar with the camera and this was a flying visit home to get this shot.

I grew up out the back of West Calder, we stayed in the miners cottages at westwood. Westwood is well known for its mines and the 5 huge shale bings. When i was younger i used to polly bagged (black bin bag instead of sledge) down these bings when it snowed, the things we would find and collect where amazing....so many stories of why they are called the five sisters and one i remeber being told and now that i am older i understand why we were told this. The bings were right beside my house and out in westwood and back in the 90's there wasnt the fear there is now of abduction, 'bad people', i played until it was dark and was a typical country kid.... we were allowed to explore pretty much anywhere we wanted which i think is where i get my nosey nature from as i like exploring places even now. on numerous occassions me and my friend would venture to the bings and act out various imaginary scenes.... our mums were getting annoyed how often we would visit them and often without telling them where we were (before mobiles) that one day we were late for dinner as we'd got distracted on the bings.....when we came home our mums were waiting and boy they were MAD. they then told us the reason behind their names was that one day the farmer down the roads great grandad had five daughters they all ventured up the bings without telling their dad they claimed one each but they never returned the shale at the top acted as massive pot hole and sucked them inside. After that we only ventured up the bings with mum knowing.

we then moved to murieston to a new house which was nice but wasnt home....no proper woodlands, real farms, country lanes, proper muddy puddles....bings

in 2007 my mum was diagnosed with MS and advised she would end up in a wheelchair but they were unsure of when.... mum had always wanted to return to westwood and see the bings every morning so me and my sister got to work looking for a bunglaow..... the next day we found one it was massive and right at the foot of the bings (opposite side from where we lived before) the next again day we viewed it and by the end of the week we bought it.....

I then moved to East Calder with my boyfriend steven.....not a huge fan to be honest but its a house and roof over my head.....
My heart however will always belong to West Calder - West Wood
