Shhh - Mum's the word

I am very excited about my delivery from Amazon. Two special books arrived today as a result of an email I recieved from Jamie Ford telling my his latest book Songs of Willow Frost was finally on the bookshelves.

I don't know Jamie personally but he and I shared some email exchange last year when I launched the Seattle Camera Club website and asked if I could cite his book in the media section, as it related to Seattle and Nihonmachi (Japantown). He was most accepting and was genuinely interested in the SCC photographs. Fast forward one year and I received an email two days ago regarding the launch of Jamie's new book. I wasn't sure if the mail was a generic e-blast or a personal one. Anyways, I wrote back saying I had ordered the book, and that this was perfect timing as I was going to Seattle on October 10th where, for a second time, I'd visit the University of Washington's Special Collections Unit to look at the SCC collection.

Jamie replied (obviously no generic e-blast after all :)), asking me to let him know how my visit to see the photos goes and how he'd love to see those for himself.

And that's when an idea struck me. David Martin in one of the key reasons I discovered the SCC. David Martin's book Shadows of a Fleeting World is the reason I wanted to create the SCC website, namely, to present a portion of the SCC's work in one location but with in depth information about the members and the cultural and artistic environment of that era.

So, back to my idea: why not order David's book, have David sign it, then send 'Shadows' to Jamie. In this way, Jamie can see the photographs.

More exciting is that David and I will invite Jamie to view the photographs with us on October 10th. Both authors of the book, David and Nicollete would be present. How amazing to hear them talk about the photographs.

Jamie probably won't make it, but it's the gesture that counts.
