As the cable gave a warning ping and went a bit soft only a couple of definite-braking-requirements from work I left it until I got home to fix after tightening the other brake at lunchtime, though I did buy another brake cable on the way back as I was sure I'd only seen one in the bag of cables the other day. I then found two more in a different bag upstairs, though at least I know definitely know I have them for next time.
