The 10% off truth
There's always light relief in most marketing communications, whether it's a funny ad or gently poking fun here or there. Sales promotion is one area where the pickings are far from slim. There's a smile to be raised at the whiff of an insult in a BOGOF, but I always find humour in such as 10% off. '10% off wines' suggests a smaller bottle, and '25% off trousers' suggests shorts.
So it is in the pic. '10% off return flights' suggests that if we're flying from London to Glasgow, we'll land in Carlisle, while we should be packing our swimming costumes if we've got 10% off a flight from Glasgow to New York. No humour intended in the copy of course, but I did come across a sales promo in a local shop recently. Rolls were priced 20p each 'or 6 for £1.20'.
Thanks for reading the blip. I'm so grateful, you can have this paragraph for free.
It's been a long week....
