Bunty and Doris- Festival of Ageing
Rehearsals seriously underway at the Macrobert arts centre now as we prepare for our contribution – Bunty and Doris - to Luminate the Scottish Festival of Creative Ageing next month.
Performances will take place at the end of next October in both Glasgow and Stirling.
Some of us have had misgivings about the content fearing it was ageist – we dance to “Tea for Two” clutching teacups waiting for the phone to ring- but we have been assured by Salma and Hayley to-days dance assistants that this is the last thing on the choreographer Natasha Gilmore mind.
We said we did not see ourselves conforming to the stereotyped images of “little lonely old ladies” and wanted something more positive and affirmative.
After all we older people are trailblazers for what an active Third Age can be like.
Later in the students’ union coffee bar, where we retreated for our lunch, two members of our group demonstrated the steps- (I need some extra coaching) and I videoed it so that I can go away and practice.
