Threads?

Remember a drama documentary from the early '80s called "Threads"? It told the story of a nuclear attack on Sheffield, but the title referred to the interconnectedness of all our services, everything that goes to make up a modern industrial society. I used to show the film to my Standard Grade classes as part of a unit (remember them? in English, and a former pupil reminded me of it tonight.

However, it was already in the back of my mind from seeing the wonderful spiders' webs in our garden this morning, all sparkling with water from the damp mist that hung around all day. The background to the title of the film showed a spider making its web.
