Web of lies

Everything on this list is true:

* A 'spider's web' is one that is still is use - once it is abandoned it becomes a 'cobweb'

* It is common for spiders to eat their own web daily to recoup some of the energy used in spinning

* The tensile strength of spider silk is greater than the same weight of steel

* A single strand of web has more potential energy than an atomic bomb

* It is common for a web to be about 20 times the size of the spider building it

* The reason spiders don't stick to their own webs is that they can spin sticky and non-sticky silk, and only walk on the non-sticky bits

* Spider webs are rich in vitamin K, which clots blood, which is why cobwebs are used on wounds and cuts in traditional European medicine

* Spiders' spinneret glands, located at the tip of their abdomen, are highly stimulated by moisture; thus there really are more webs on misty days

* Actually not quite everything on this list is true (but there's only one lie!)
