Sissinghurst

Sissinghurst at last! I have wanted to visit this garden for a long time, and it did not disappoint! Not too many visitors, and the white garden was looking fabulous in the September sunshine.
We also went to Bateman's, the home of Rudyard Kipling. Set in glorious countryside, the house is Jacobean, so the Kiplings tried to furnish it authentically. A family home which he loved for the rest of his life :
"Our England is a garden that is full of stately views,
Of borders, beds and shrubberies and lawns and avenues,
With statues on the terraces and peacocks strutting by;
But the Glory of the Garden lies in more than meets the eye."

In other words, a glorious garden means plenty of hard work!
