Carp

Today we were meeting up with my wifes cousin and her family.
The weather - being crap- forced us to meet up somewhere with a roof and warmth. We decided on Dobbies Garden Centre so that we could all be catered for as regards food and entertainment (the kids ages were from 5 to 25).
After eating we went in to the Butterfly Farm which was certainly warm but far from dry (sweat was running in abundance).

I love trying to photograph the butterflies but have never been really happy with any results. There are lots of other interesting creepy crawlies to watch and shoot as well. The 'hands on' sessions are a joy to behold as people nerviously handle tarantulas, snakes, giant millipedes and the such. I was most surprised and proud of my wife when she handled the spider and snake - both of which she hates. She drew the line at the millipede, but I will let her off with that - that is a step too far.

There are loads of boards around the place giving all sorts of facts and figures about all the inhabitants. One that caught my eye was the one about Koy carp............did you know that the largest one ever recorded was 2 meters long and that the oldest lived to be 230.

Wow!
